Industrial Reuse Boosts New Jersey's Recycling Rate

On April 25, 2007, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) issued its first Class C Recycling Center permit to allow for the recycling of food waste to Converted Organics of Woodbridge, LLC (Converted Organics). This permit will allow construction to begin on the first-of-its-kind food waste recycling facility in the United States.

Organic fertilizer companies see growing market

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- The clean-sounding catchword "organic" is fueling buzz in perhaps the dirtiest of products: fertilizer. While organic products represent a tiny share of the $40 billion fertilizer market in the U.S., demand is growing along with that for organic foods and other items. This has prompted several companies, mostly small and regional but also including big corporations such as Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. (SMG), to bet on producing the planet-friendly fertilizer.

Spurned by VCs, waste conversion startup goes public

Startup Converted Organics Inc. has taken the processes behind backyard composting and mimicked them on a vastly larger scale to create a cutting-edge business.

And the Boston-based company took an unusual route to raise the capital it needed to launch its pilot waste-converting plant -- after being rebuffed by venture capitalists, the company filed for an IPO.
