Projects

A growing number of regions – particularly those with large urban centers – face significant waste management problems, including diminished landfill capacity and difficulty siting and operating incinerators. Organic waste alone accounts for 10 to 15 percent of the national solid waste stream. Composting is an appealing option for organic waste management on a small scale, but land use requirements and environmental challenges such as odor and transportation requirements make it extremely difficult to implement on a larger scale.

State and local governments are under tremendous pressure to find alternative, cost-effective ways to manage their waste. For many, recycling and reuse is an increasingly attractive option. Converted Organics seeks to advance state and local waste management objectives through the use of an advanced organic waste processing technology that manufactures a valuable biostimulant (an organic replacement for harmful fertilizers) using large organic waste streams as a feedstock. We are currently developing three such projects in the Northeastern United States.

Industrial Waste Water (IWW)

Under a license agreement with Heartland Technology Partners, LLC (“HTP”), Converted Organics was granted an exclusive, irrevocable license to utilize HTP’s patented LM-HT™ Concentrator technology in the U.S. industrial wastewater (IWW) market.

Converted Organics’ entrance into the Industrial Wastewater (IWW) treatment business provides us with an Industry differentiating offering.  The LM-HT Concentrator™ is a zero-liquid-discharge treatment of aqueous waste streams, using waste heat and renewable energy as fuel.

Industrial Waste Water treatment opportunities exist at both in-plant and centralized locations, with mobile sizes ranging from 1,000 gallons per day (gpd) to 40,000 gpd and modular sizes up to 250,000 gpd.  Industries that are targets for this technology are petro-chemical, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, metal processing, food preparation, transportation and energy production. Converted Organics is uniquely positioned to provide industry differentiating technology for treatment of IWW. Through the use of the zero-liquid-discharge treatment and a flexible fuel source, LM-HT™ Concentrators bring an environmentally friendly treatment option to waste water generators.  Also, LM-HT™ Concentrators can be strategically placed in locations such as landfills, which help to further reduce greenhouse gases and eliminate significant transportation costs.

Clean water is critical for sustaining life, in many parts of the world it is a commodity more important than oil.  The wastewater market in the US was projected to be a $127B business segment in 2009, and pales in comparison to worldwide needs.  With the HTP technology, contaminants are NOT discharged into surface water. Instead, clean water vapor is returned to the atmosphere and the residuals are recycled or securely disposed.

More importantly, the technology provides users with a reliable low-cost solution through on-site treatment using waste heat from landfill flare or exhaust from on-site power generation. Its proprietary wastewater technology comprises 1) the LM-HT™ Concentrator wastewater treatment process (the “Concentrator”); and 2) Waste Heat Transfer Systems (“WHTS”) for utilizing waste heat in the Concentrator as the principal energy source technologies. The demand for clean water is huge and growing. Converted Organics Industrial Waste Water Business is another in its portfolio of sustainable, environmentally-friendly green assets.

For Turf Less Can Be More

Says Cornell Study

Cornell University, under the direction of Prof. Frank Rossi, has completed two years of study using products to be produced by Converted Organics Inc. What Dr. Rossi found was that using these products allows professional turf managers to reduce chemical inputs by half or more without jeopardizing championship results. The studies evaluated both turf grass quality and effectiveness in suppressing common diseases such as dollar spot, brown patch and anthracnose.
